Preparing For The Work To Start

You have appointed your builder and are ready for the work to start.
Unfortunately, building work is disruptive but there are steps you can take to minimise the disruption and stress.

Moving out, if you can, helps the builder work more quickly and efficiently.

Notify your neighbours – there will be noise and dust. Tradesmen’s vans, delivery lorries and skips will be visiting site regularly.

Ensure the area where the work is being carried out has been cleared. Works may require access to other areas of your house such as fuse board, boiler, flooring to be lifted and/or access to rooms above where the work is taking place

Although it may seem the last stage of the works, your choice of final finishes can affect the preparation beforehand. Before the work starts you should think about:
- Kitchen Design
- Sanitaryware
- Electrical Layout
- Lighting
- Position of Radiators
- Styles of doors, architraves & skirtings plus ironmongery
- Floor Finishes
- Decoration
- Externals & Landscaping
